Homeschool Farm Visits at High Desert Farmstead
Come spend some time with us at High Desert Farmstead for an educational visit centered around alpacas, llamas, and fiber.
We’ll begin with an alpaca or llama story before learning more about these fascinating animals—including where they originated, how they came to the United States, the differences between alpacas and llamas, how they have worked alongside people, and how we care for them here on the farm.
Children will have the opportunity to observe our animals, learn about their behavior and personalities, and explore fleece, fiber, yarn, and how fiber becomes something we can use.
After learning about and seeing the animals we will finish our time with a simple weaving craft.
Each visit includes plenty of time for questions and a cookie to take with you.
Pricing
$10 per participant with one free adult per two children. Please message me if you have 3 or more children in your own family participating.
Visit Length
Visits are approximately 60–90 minutes.
Adults
One supervising adult is included at no charge for every two paid children.
Families attending with only one child may also bring one supervising adult at no charge.
Additional adults are $5 each.
Animal Interaction
We want visits to be enjoyable and respectful for both children and animals. Guests will have opportunities to observe and learn about our alpacas and llamas.
Closer animal interaction may be possible, but it will depend on the animals and the behavior and safety of the group that day.
Children must remain with their supervising adults and follow farm safety instructions throughout the visit.
Alternate days may be available. Message to arrange.
